According to Bank Indonesia's (BI) Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) data, the United States dollar (US$) closed at Rp16,575 against the Indonesian rupiah on Friday, February 28, 2025.

"This could prompt the Fed to delay cutting its benchmark interest rate and encourage the strengthening of the US dollar," Ariston said.

Similarly, Lukman Leong, an analyst at Doo Financial Futures, also predicted that the rupiah would weaken against the sharply strengthening US dollar.

"This is due to Trump's statement confirming that the tariffs on Canada and Mexico will remain in effect from March 3, 2025," said Lukman.

Lukman added that the US dollar is also strengthening due to stronger-than-expected US durable goods sales data. Lukman previously projected the rupiah to be at the level of Rp16,400 to Rp16,550 per US dollar.
