Merger and acquisition (M&A) activities in Indonesia up to April 6, 2017, reached US$2.1 billion, equivalent to Rp27.93 trillion at an exchange rate of Rp13,300 per US dollar. This figure represents a 2.1 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year. The number of deals reached 56. Of this total, US$334.1 billion are complete, US$707.5 billion are pending, and US$1 billion are proposed.
Based on Bloomberg data, the largest planned and executed M&A was recorded by PT Asuransi Jiwa Sinarmas MSIG with a value of US$1 billion, or approximately Rp13.3 trillion. Waskita Toll Road followed in second place with US$261.9 million, and in third place was a toll road transaction by PT Astra International Tbk valued at US$192.8 million.
The sectors with the most M&A targets were the financial industry, reaching US$1.2 billion, followed by consumer (construction) at US$298.7 million, industrial at US$267 million, consumer (goods and services) at US$163.3 million, and technology at US$105.4 million.
