Disbursement of motor vehicle loans in Indonesia has continued to increase in recent months. However, the ratio of problematic vehicle loans remains stable.
According to data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), up to March 2025, the total value of motor vehicle loan financing from national commercial banks reached Rp142.92 trillion.
Of this amount, Rp3.2 trillion was classified as non-performing loans/non-performing financing (NPL/NPF), equivalent to 2.24% of the total financing.
Although higher than in 2022-2023, the ratio of problematic vehicle loans has remained relatively stable at around 2.2-2.3% since May 2024, as shown in the graph.
When broken down by region, the highest ratio of problematic vehicle loans is found in West Papua, West Nusa Tenggara, Jakarta, South Sulawesi, East Java, West Java, and Central Java.
Here is a breakdown of the provinces with the highest ratio of problematic vehicle loans in Indonesia in March 2025:
1. West Papua
- Total value of motor vehicle loan financing: Rp7.21 billion
- Value of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): Rp841.69 million
- Ratio of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): 11.68%
2. West Nusa Tenggara
- Total value of motor vehicle loan financing: Rp85.09 billion
- Value of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): Rp2.13 billion
- Ratio of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): 2.51%
3. Jakarta
- Total value of motor vehicle loan financing: Rp122.49 trillion
- Value of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): Rp2.84 trillion
- Ratio of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): 2.32%
4. South Sulawesi
- Total value of motor vehicle loan financing: Rp1.46 trillion
- Value of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): Rp31.74 billion
- Ratio of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): 2.17%
5. East Java
- Total value of motor vehicle loan financing: Rp4.64 trillion
- Value of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): Rp99.1 billion
- Ratio of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): 2.14%
6. West Java
- Total value of motor vehicle loan financing: Rp3.51 trillion
- Value of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): Rp71.75 billion
- Ratio of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): 2.05%
7. Central Java
- Total value of motor vehicle loan financing: Rp1.94 trillion
- Value of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): Rp39.65 billion
- Ratio of problematic vehicle loans (NPL/NPF): 2.05%
Outside of these seven provinces, other provinces have a lower ratio of problematic vehicle loans, ranging from 1.9% and below.
