Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK): Number of hotspots in Indonesia reaches 179 in the last 24 hours (Saturday, January 13, 2024)

Based on the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry's (KLHK) SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system, 24-hour monitoring shows 179 hotspots detected in Indonesia.

This data is from satellite imagery (Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA) accessed on Saturday (13/1/2024) at 08.47 WIB. Of the 179 detected hotspots, 6 have a high confidence level, 171 are medium, and 2 are low.

Hotspot confidence levels are categorized into three scales: low (0-29), medium (30-79), and high (80-100). The higher the confidence level, the greater the likelihood of a forest and land fire in that area.

The highest number of hotspots were detected in East Kalimantan (48). East Nusa Tenggara is second with 29 hotspots, followed by Central Sulawesi with 17.

Eleven hotspots were detected in Central Java, 11 in East Java, 10 in Southeast Sulawesi, and 9 in South Sulawesi.

A hotspot is a coordinate point with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings and does not represent the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of clustered hotspots in an area indicates forest and land fires. This means that satellite remote sensing data on hotspots remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
