According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the estimated area of forest and land fires in Indonesia throughout 2024 reached 376,000 hectares.
The area burned decreased by 68%, or about three times less compared to 2023.
The area of forest and land fires in Indonesia in 2024 was also lower than the 2010-2023 period, which had a median burned area of 483,000 hectares.
In 2024, fires occurred most frequently in East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara. These two provinces contributed almost half, or 42%, of the total national forest and land fire area.
