Recent 4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Jember Region

A recent earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude struck Jember on October 31, 2023. According to a release from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was located in the sea approximately 73 kilometers southeast of Jember.

"Earthquake felt, Magnitude: 4.9 on October 31, 2023, 21:44:48," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 8.81°S (South Latitude) and 113.89°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in several areas, including Jember and Badung, with intensities of II and II respectively. An MMI scale of II means the earthquake was not felt by most people or was felt only by a few, but was recorded by instruments.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 12 significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the last week, varying in magnitude and depth.
