The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has set target indicators of success as a measure of national energy sovereignty. In 2016, several achievements to be attained include an electrification ratio reaching 90.2 percent, an increase from the 2015 achievement of 88.5 percent, and per capita electricity consumption is also expected to increase from 914 kWh to 985 kWh.
In the area of energy use, the portion of renewable energy (RE) is targeted to reach 13 percent of the national energy mix. This percentage is up from the 2015 achievement of 10 percent. To support this increase, the government has designed incentives, provided subsidies, and encouraged increased utilization of biofuels.
For energy resource production, the government is encouraging the discovery of new fields, the application of EOR (enhanced oil recovery) technology, and the development of unconventional gas (shale gas and CBM). The target is to achieve crude oil production of 830,000 barrels per day, an increase from last year's achievement of 788,000 barrels per day, and natural gas production is expected to reach 1,155,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
