According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia is currently experiencing a vertical mismatch, where the formal education level of some workers does not align with the requirements of their jobs.

The phenomenon of vertical mismatch can manifest as overeducated, where workers possess higher qualifications than required.

BPS found that in 2024, 64.64% of young workers held positions that matched their educational qualifications.

Meanwhile, 22.36% of other young workers were overeducated, and 13% were undereducated.

"This means that 35.36% of young workers are not in job positions that align with their education level, reflecting a mismatch between the supply of graduates' skills and the real demands of the job market," BPS explained.
