25,000 Indonesian Migrant Workers to Depart in Early 2025: These are Their Destination Countries

According to data from the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), 25,643 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) were placed in various countries in January 2025. This number is down 5.76% compared to January 2024, which reached 27,211.

Malaysia was the top destination country for PMIs at the beginning of this year, with 8,014 individuals, or 31% of the national total.

The following is a list of the top 10 destination countries for Indonesian migrant workers in January 2025:

1. Malaysia: 8,014 people
2. Hong Kong: 7,245 people
3. Taiwan: 5,516 people
4. Singapore: 1,161 people
5. Japan: 1,122 people
6. Saudi Arabia: 623 people
7. South Korea: 577 people
8. Italy: 305 people
9. Brunei Darussalam: 244 people
10. Turkey: 219 people

In terms of occupation, the majority of PMIs, 7,321, worked as domestic helpers. 4,468 worked in plantation labor, and 3,729 worked as caregivers.

BP2MI also recorded 128 complaints reported by PMIs in January 2025. The most common complaints were requests for repatriation (32 complaints), failed departures (17 complaints), and unpaid wages (15 complaints).
