The Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices in Malinau Regency in 2024 was recorded at Rp18.21 million. The GRDP of this regency grew by 3.55% compared to the previous year's Rp18.72 million.
However, based on historical data, compared to the post-COVID-19 pandemic period, the growth in this region has not been better, as it recorded lower growth.
According to BPS publications, with a total population of 86,471 people, the per capita GRDP in this region was recorded at Rp210.43 million per capita per year. This per capita GRDP ranks 26th nationally.
Of the 17 sectors driving the economy of this regency, the mining and quarrying sector is the leading one.
The first-ranked sector is mining and quarrying. In 2024, this sector contributed the largest GRDP with a value of Rp10.21 million. This nominal figure grew by 0.45%.
Next, the construction sector grew by 12.05% to Rp2.53 million, while the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector had a GRDP of Rp1.69 million (3.8% growth).
The fifth largest contributing sector is wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with a GRDP of Rp810.51 thousand million. This sector recorded a 9.57% growth compared to the previous year's achievement of Rp716.55 thousand million.

In terms of distribution level, the main sector contributing the largest GRDP growth in Malinau Regency is the mining and quarrying sector, with a contribution of 52.54%.
