Government's Natural Resource Revenue Allocation to Papua in 2018: Rp 3.2 Trillion

In 2018, central government allocations of natural resource (NR) revenue to Papua Province reached Rp 3.2 trillion, a 275% increase compared to the previous year. This amount comprised Rp 3.07 trillion from general mining, Rp 126.05 billion from forestry, and Rp 20.33 billion from fisheries.

Mimika Regency received the largest share of NR revenue in Papua Province, totaling Rp 1.23 trillion. This included Rp 1.21 trillion from general mining, Rp 14 billion from forestry, and Rp 701 million from fisheries. Papua Provincial Government received the second largest allocation at Rp 670 billion.

For information, the significant NR revenue in Papua is due to the substantial government revenue contribution from nickel and gold mining companies in Indonesia's easternmost province, namely PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI). As is known, in 2018 the Indonesian government officially acquired a 51.24% stake in PTFI through PT Inalum (Persero) in a transaction valued at Rp 65.6 trillion.
