Muslems in Indonesia are observing the Ramadan fast from February 18-19, 2026.
At the beginning of this fasting month, there are a number of staple food commodities whose prices have risen compared to last year. The highest price increase occurred in red onions.
According to the Ministry of Trade data, the average price of red onions in Indonesia on February 20, 2026 reached Rp41,535 per kilogram (kg), an increase of 26.38% compared to February 20, 2025 (year-on-year/yoy).
There was also a significant price increase in red chili peppers and broiler chicken, with average prices rising by more than 15% (yoy).
Here are the details of the food price increases at the beginning of Ramadan as of February 20, 2026:
- Red onions: Rp41,535 per kg, an increase of 26.38% (yoy)
- Red chili peppers: Rp81,443 per kg, an increase of 22.18% (yoy)
- Broiler chicken: Rp41,184 per kg, an increase of 15.84% (yoy)
- Broiler eggs: Rp30,906 per kg, an increase of 7.40% (yoy)
- Beef thigh: Rp136,082 per kg, an increase of 3.39% (yoy)
- Premium cooking oil: Rp21,140 per liter, an increase of 2.78% (yoy)
- Large red chili peppers: Rp48,335 per kg, an increase of 2.34% (yoy)
- Wheat flour: Rp12,461 per kg, an increase of 1.92% (yoy)
- Bulk cooking oil: Rp18,108 per liter, an increase of 1.60% (yoy)
- Premium rice: Rp15,292 per kg, an increase of 0.61% (yoy)
- Medium rice: Rp13,658 per kg, an increase of 0.39% (yoy)
On the other hand, there are also some food items whose prices have dropped as of February 20, 2026, namely:
- Curl red chili peppers: Rp46,528 per kg, a decrease of 0.09% (yoy)
- Bulk sugar: Rp17,798 per kg, a decrease of 0.78% (yoy)
- Imported soybeans: Rp13,284 per kg, a decrease of 5.69% (yoy)
- Minyakita cooking oil: Rp15,978 per liter, a decrease of 7.71% (yoy)
- Honan garlic: Rp36,703 per kg, a decrease of 10.97% (yoy)
