Indonesian society's understanding of digital ethics is generally considered good.
This is recorded in a survey report from a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), titled *Status Literasi Digital di Indonesia 2022* (Status of Digital Literacy in Indonesia 2022).
According to the report, in 2022, the index of Indonesian citizens' digital literacy in the *Digital Ethics* pillar reached 3.68 points on a scale of 1-5. This achievement increased compared to 2021, which had an index of 3.53 points.
The *Digital Ethics* pillar measures the sensitivity of internet users in interacting in the digital space, such as uploading content without permission, posting negative comments, and respecting the privacy of others on social media.
“The increase in the *Digital Ethics* pillar comes from several indicators with high values, such as encouraging people not to post negative comments (index score 4.07) and not sharing screenshots on social media (index score 3.97),” stated the Kominfo and KIC team in their report.
71.2% of the total respondents agreed and 19.5% strongly agreed to not encourage negative comments on social media. This is the most understood digital ethic among Indonesian citizens.
The majority of respondents also agreed to not share screenshots of private conversations on social media, not respond to rude comments when someone posts a negative comment, not upload photos with other people's children, and not tag friends in social media posts without informing them.
On the other hand, the least understood digital ethic is not sharing accident information directly. Only 40.2% of respondents agreed to do this, as seen in the graph above.
The Ministry of Communication and Informatics and KIC conducted this survey on 10,000 internet users aged 13-70 years spread across 34 provinces and 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia.
The survey was conducted during August-September 2022 through face-to-face interviews. Sampling was done using a *multistage random sampling* method, with a margin of error of approximately 0.98% and a 95% confidence interval.
Respondents had diverse backgrounds, including housewives, entrepreneurs, workers, students, farmers, and others. The complete report on this survey can be accessed and downloaded via the link: https://survei.literasidigital.id/.
