Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning, Volcanic Ash Height Around 200 Meters

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday (August 2, 2025) at 09:07 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 7 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height was approximately 200 meters above the peak (1,623 meters above sea level).

The observed ash column was white to gray with moderate intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 6.9 millimeters and a duration of 36 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 2, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 17 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.7-26.8 millimeters and earthquake durations of 32-67 seconds.

Furthermore, 19 degassing earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.2-5.4 millimeters and earthquake durations of 26-33 seconds, and 1 local tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 1.3 millimeters s-p 6 seconds and an earthquake duration of 28 seconds occurred.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/hikers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, to be aware of the potential danger from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, the West sector, and the Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,422 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,177 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 204 times.
