Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Thursday, April 24, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 5:09 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 57 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed at approximately None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 48 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 24, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIT showed 13 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 17-28 millimeters and durations of 32-59 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 14 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-12 millimeters and durations of 17-52 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 41 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,174 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,391 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,211 times.
