Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight, Eruption Height 400 Meters Above the Peak

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 10:12 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 15 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 400 meters above the peak or 1,725 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 31 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 14, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIT showed 23 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 24-47 millimeters and durations of 18-28 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 29 tremor events with amplitudes of 7-10 millimeters and durations of 28-31 seconds, and 34 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-6 millimeters and durations of 11-20 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia recorded 2,829 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,295 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,106 times.
