Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning, Eruption Height Reaches 200 Meters Above the Peak

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 7:21 AM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 29 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to reach 200 meters above the peak (1,784 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on June 22, 2024, from 00:00 to 06:00 AM WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 16.2 millimeters and a duration of 434 seconds.

Then, there were 4 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.9-20.6 millimeters and durations of 7-9 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 34.6 millimeters, S-P 18.1 seconds, and a duration of 71 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 4-kilometer radius in the North-Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,232 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (537 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 232 times.
