Warning! Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, April 18, 2026)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday (April 18, 2026) at 06:03 WIT. In the past week, Mount Dukono has erupted 15 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 750 meters above the peak or 1,837 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the northeast and east. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Warning). Earthquake observations on April 18, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 133 eruption/earthquake events with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and earthquake durations of 30.75-93.24 seconds.

Then, 10 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters, s-p times of 12.45-27.38 seconds and earthquake durations of 60.77-91.5 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor earthquake with amplitudes of 1-4 millimeters, dominant at 2 millimeters.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,540 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (823 eruptions) while Mount Dukono erupted 57 times.
