Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Evening (Saturday, April 19, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 5:03 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 54 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 500 meters above the peak or 2,084 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 11 millimeters and a duration of 88 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 19, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA showed 8 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 5.1-19.9 millimeters and durations of 64-146 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 9 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2.9-5.1 millimeters and durations of 32-84 seconds, and 5 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 4.4-7.4 millimeters and durations of 94-139 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,995 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,345 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 304 times.
