Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, August 18, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (8/18/2025) at 00:38 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki only erupted once.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 8,000 meters above the peak (9,584 meters above sea level).

The observed ash column was gray with thick intensity towards the west and northwest. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Awas/Alert). Seismicity observations on August 18, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 178 seconds.

Subsequently, there were 4 rockfall earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-14.8 mm and durations of 49-198 seconds, and 11 gas emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-14.8 millimeters and durations of 32-51 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a radius of 6 kilometers and the West-North-Northeast Sector as far as 7 kilometers from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,665 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,275 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 457 times.
