KPAI: Child Rights Violation Cases Decreased in 2021

The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) received 5,953 reports of child rights violations. This figure is lower than the previous year's 6,519 cases.

According to KPAI Chair Susanto, several factors contributed to this decrease: public participation, commitment from stakeholders involved in child protection, and increased public awareness regarding child protection. He hopes this decrease indicates progress in Indonesia's child protection efforts.

Specifically, child rights violations comprised fulfillment of children's rights and special child protection. There were 2,971 cases related to the fulfillment of children's rights and 2,982 cases related to special child protection.

The highest number of cases related to the fulfillment of children's rights fell under the cluster of family environment and alternative care, totaling 2,281 cases. These cases included children denied access to parents (492 cases), children experiencing problematic upbringing/parental/family conflict (423 cases), children deprived of financial support (408 cases), children experiencing problematic upbringing (398 cases), and children involved in custody disputes (306 cases).

Meanwhile, the highest number of cases related to special child protection involved children who were victims of physical and/or psychological violence, reaching 1,138 cases. This included children who were victims of assault (574 cases), psychological violence (515 cases), murder (35 cases), and gang fights (14 cases).

The trend shows that reports of child rights violations have fluctuated. The highest number of reports occurred in 2020 (6,519 cases), while the lowest was in 2019 (4,369 cases).
