Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Sunday, March 16, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 06:17 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 37 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 5.9 millimeters and a duration of 216 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on March 16, 2025, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 50 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 5 tremor earthquakes with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and durations of 53-133 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 105 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 5-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and in the southwest-north-northeast sector up to 6 kilometers.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,210 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,017 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 190 times.
