Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Monday, March 17, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 05:51 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 3 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 1,000 meters above the peak (2,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with low intensity towards the north and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 47 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on March 17, 2025, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 3 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14.8-22.2 millimeters and durations of 47-94 seconds.

Then, there was 1 puffing quake with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 48 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters, S-P 16 seconds, and a duration of 54 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 5-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and in the southwest-north-northeast sector up to 6 kilometers.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,242 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,027 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 201 times.
