Indonesia's Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) Detects 599 Hotspots Across Indonesia, Most in East Nusa Tenggara (Friday, August 9, 2024)

Based on the forest and land fire monitoring system SiPongi of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), 24-hour monitoring shows 599 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This is an increase of 123 hotspots compared to the previous period.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA accessed on Friday (9/8/2024) at 16.08 WIB. Of the 599 hotspots detected, 43 have a high confidence level, 533 are medium scale, and 23 are low scale.

The confidence level of hotspots is divided into 3 scales. The low scale ranges from 0-29, the medium scale from 30-79, and the high scale from 80-100. The higher the confidence level of a hotspot, the higher the likelihood of a forest and land fire in that area.

The highest number of detected hotspots is in East Nusa Tenggara with 115 hotspots. West Kalimantan is second with 86 hotspots. East Java is third with 64 hotspots.

32 hotspots were detected in Maluku, followed by Bangka Belitung Islands with 32 hotspots, and East Kalimantan and Central Java each having 30 and 27 detected hotspots respectively.

Hotspots are coordinate points of an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in one area indicates forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellites remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
