Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Sunday, August 24, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (8/24/2025) at 10:02 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 25 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 800 meters above the peak or 2,384 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be grey with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 103 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on August 24, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA, showed 1 eruption/explosive earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 182 seconds.

Then, 1 rockfall earthquake with an amplitude of 29.6 mm and a duration of 81 seconds, and 5 exhalation earthquakes with an amplitude of 4.4-7.4 millimeters and a duration of 31-58 seconds.

PVMBG urges the community around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki''s eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,778 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,309 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 481 times.
