Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, July 29, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Tuesday (July 29, 2025) at 05:30 AM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 8 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No visual eruption was observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on July 29, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIB showed 44 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 11-22 millimeters and durations of 45-159 seconds.

Additionally, 2 rockfall earthquakes occurred with amplitudes of 2-10 mm and durations of 93-115 seconds, and 10 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-9 millimeters and durations of 24-78 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 8 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Outside this distance, the public is advised not to engage in activities within 500 meters from the riverbanks along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for hot ash clouds and lava flows extending up to 13 kilometers from the peak.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,356 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has erupted the most with 2,153 times.
