Alert! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Saturday, April 11, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday (April 11, 2026) at 20:25 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 34 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No eruption visuals were observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 46 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on April 11, 2026, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 141 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and durations of 31-84 seconds.

Then, 2 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-13 millimeters and durations of 34-36 seconds, as well as 11 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-28 millimeters and durations of 45-122 seconds.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a 3.5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,419 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (765 eruptions) while Mount Ibu has erupted 524 times.
