Warning! Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Afternoon (Saturday, April 11, 2026)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday (April 11, 2026) at 17:53 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 14 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 700 meters above the peak or 1,787 meters above sea level.

The observed ash column was white to gray in color with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Warning). Earthquake observations on April 11, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 24 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-24 millimeters and earthquake durations of 24.66-67.73 seconds.

Then, 2 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-20 millimeters, s-p 20 seconds and earthquake durations of 42.46-67.73 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor earthquake with amplitudes of 1-6 millimeters, dominated by 3 millimeters.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,417 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (764 eruptions) while Mount Dukono erupted 42 times.
