Mount Semeru Erupts Again Tonight (Friday, June 14, 2024)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 6:33 PM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 79 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, visual eruptions were not observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on June 14, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIB showed 43 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-23 millimeters and durations of 62-140 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 7 rockfall quakes with amplitudes of 3-6 mm and durations of 50-100 seconds, and 11 emission quakes with amplitudes of 3-8 millimeters and durations of 36-60 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 13 kilometers from the summit (eruption center). Beyond that distance, the public should not engage in activities within 500 meters of the riverbank (river edge) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for pyroclastic flow and lava flows extending up to 17 kilometers from the summit.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,096 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has experienced the most eruptions, with 473 recorded events.
