Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, July 13, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 09:43 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 36 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 900 meters above the peak (2,484 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 37 millimeters and a duration of 263 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on July 13, 2024, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 2 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 15.5-29.5 millimeters and durations of 260-930 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 9 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 3.7-26.6 millimeters and durations of 6-14 seconds, and 4 deep volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 13.3-47.3 millimeters, s-p 1.3-1.6 seconds, and durations of 7-12 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,609 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (692 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 350 times.
