Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Early This Morning (Monday, August 25, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (August 25, 2025) at 01:30 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 1,200 meters above the peak (2,784 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate to thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 55 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 25, 2025, at 18:00-23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 103 seconds.

Then, 9 exhalation earthquakes with an amplitude of 2.2-7.4 millimeters and a duration of 32-57 seconds, and 2 non-harmonic tremors with an amplitude of 2.9-5.9 millimeters and a duration of 72-134 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki''s eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,780 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,309 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 482 times.
