Indonesia's male literacy rate is higher than that of females.
This is evident from the March 2023 report of the National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas) by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
According to the report, in March 2023, 97.77%, or approximately 98 out of 100 men aged 15 and over, could read and write in Latin/alphabet, Arabic/hijaiyah, or other scripts.
Meanwhile, in the female group, 95.29%, or approximately 95 out of 100, could do the same.
A similar trend is observed in urban and rural areas.
In urban areas, the proportion of literate men reached 98.82%, while women reached 97.06%.
In rural areas, the proportion of literate men was 96.3%, while women were 92.78%.
