KLHK Detects 540 Hotspots in Indonesia, Most in East Nusa Tenggara (Friday, August 22, 2025)

Based on the SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the last 24-hour monitoring shows that 540 hotspots were detected in Indonesia. This number of hotspots decreased by 63 points compared to the previous period.

The data is the result of Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA satellite imagery accessed on Friday (8/22/2025) at 11:54 AM WIB. Of the 540 detected hotspots, 19 points had a high hotspot confidence level, 493 points had a medium scale, and 28 points had a low scale.

Hotspot confidence levels are divided into 3 scales. Low scale has a range of 0 - 29, medium scale 30 - 79, and high scale 80 - 100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the possibility of forest and land fires occurring in a particular area.

The most detected hotspots were in East Nusa Tenggara with 186 points. West Sumatra was in second place with the most hotspots, with 93 points. West Nusa Tenggara was in third place with 59 hotspots.

A total of 37 hotspots were detected in South Sumatra, followed by Bengkulu with 35 hotspots, and East Java and Jambi each had 21 and 20 detected hotspots.

A hotspot is a coordinate point of an area that has a higher surface temperature compared to its surroundings, and is not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in an area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection is still the most effective in monitoring forest and land fires for large areas.
