Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Afternoon, Ash Column Height 300 Meters Above Peak

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (13/8/2025) at 1:38 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 3 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 300 meters above the peak or 1,723 meters above sea level.

The observed ash column was white to gray with thick intensity towards the south. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 31 millimeters and a duration of 47 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 13, 2025, from 06:00-12:00 WITA showed 34 eruption/emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 14-34 millimeters and durations of 45-70 seconds.

Subsequently, 39 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.6-15.6 millimeters and durations of 20-34 seconds, and 7 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3.1-9.3 millimeters and durations of 94-311 seconds occurred.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter and not to conduct activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of the potential danger from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, West sector, and Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,597 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,240 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 229 times.
