Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, April 21, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 7:25 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 25 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column reached 600 meters above the peak or 1,925 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 68 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 21, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIT showed 20 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 39-89 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 31 tremor events with amplitudes of 2-15 millimeters and durations of 18-62 seconds, and 3 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3-7 millimeters and durations of 49-61 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,101 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,368 eruptions), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,179 times.
