Warning! Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, April 19, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 06:09 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 14 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 1,000 meters above the peak (2,087 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 20 millimeters and a duration of 66.16 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Dukono's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 19, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 252 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 30.92-92.69 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 local tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 8 millimeters, an s-p time of 8.91 seconds, and a duration of 40.64 seconds; and 2 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 7-20 millimeters, s-p times of 13.77-24.07 seconds, and durations of 46.45-73.77 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,966 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java experienced the most eruptions (1,340 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 94 times.
