Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Sunday, September 28, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (9/28/2025) at 17:21 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 79 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 1,200 meters above the peak or 2,784 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 70 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismic observations on September 28, 2025, at 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 70 seconds.

Subsequently, there were 5 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-10.5 millimeters and durations of 30-47 seconds, and 4 low-frequency earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-14.8 millimeters and durations of 24-27 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral area from the southwest to the northeast from the center of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,416 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,521 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 641 times.
