Warning! Mount Marapi Erupts Again Early This Morning (Wednesday, November 12, 2025)

Mount Marapi in West Sumatra erupted again on Wednesday (12/11/2025) at 04:41 AM WIB. In the last week, Mount Marapi had only erupted once.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 400 meters above the peak (3,291 meters above sea level).

The observed ash column was white to gray with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22.7 millimeters and a duration of 25 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Marapi's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on November 12, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIB showed 4 local tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.5-31.2 millimeters, S-P times of 1.1-2.6 seconds, and durations of 15-26 seconds. Additionally, 1 distant tectonic earthquake occurred with an amplitude of 2.3 millimeters, an S-P time of 21.1 seconds, and a duration of 62 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Marapi and hikers/visitors/tourists not to enter or conduct activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of activity (Verbeek Crater) of Mount Marapi.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,933 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,785 times), while Mount Marapi erupted 115 times.
