Ministry of Environment and Forestry: Number of Hotspots in Indonesia Reaches 443 in the Last 24 Hours (Wednesday, August 20, 2025)

Based on the SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), monitoring in the last 24 hours shows that 443 hotspots were detected in Indonesia. This number of hotspots decreased by 563 points compared to the previous period.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA, accessed on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) at 11:54 AM WIB. Of the 443 detected hotspots, 10 points have a high hotspot confidence level, 418 points are on a moderate scale, and 15 points are on a low scale.

The hotspot confidence level is divided into 3 scales. The low scale has a range of 0 - 29, the moderate scale 30 - 79, and the high scale 80 - 100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the likelihood of a forest and land fire occurring in a certain area.

The highest number of detected hotspots was in East Nusa Tenggara with 135 points. West Nusa Tenggara ranked second with 60 hotspots. West Kalimantan was in third position with 59 hotspots.

As many as 42 hotspots were detected in East Kalimantan, followed by Aceh with 41 hotspots, and North Sumatra and West Sumatra each having 26 and 24 detected hotspots, respectively.

A hotspot is a coordinate point of an area that has a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of clustered hotspots in an area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection is still the most effective for monitoring forest and land fires over a large area.
