Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Thursday, April 17, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 00:50 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 41 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 17, 2025, from 12:00 to 18:00 WIT showed 28 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 20-67 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 28 tremor events with amplitudes of 2-9 millimeters and durations of 17-38 seconds, and 5 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3-28 millimeters and durations of 33-130 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,891 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,318 eruptions), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,132 times.
