Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning, Ash Reaches Approximately 400 Meters

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 05:44 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 25 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 400 meters above the peak (1,823 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 17.1 millimeters and a duration of 41 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 12, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 51 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 9.8-32.2 millimeters and durations of 35-106 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 140 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 1.1-10.3 millimeters and durations of 24-147 seconds, and 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 5.4-6.6 millimeters and durations of 170-360 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and that the residents of Lamatokan and Jontona villages should remain vigilant against the potential dangers of lava collapses/landslides from the eastern part of the peak/crater of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,773 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,278 eruptions), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 48 times.
