Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon, Eruption Height Approximately 500 Meters

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 4:04 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 13 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 500 meters above the peak or 1,825 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the southeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 24 millimeters and a duration of 66 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on February 3, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIT showed 11 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 24-28 millimeters and durations of 36-69 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 8 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-16 millimeters and durations of 21-49 seconds, and 9 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3-28 millimeters and durations of 28-148 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,014 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (506 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 443 times.
