Mount Semeru Erupts Again Tonight (Saturday, August 30, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Saturday (8/30/2025) at 00:34 WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 50 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption visual was not observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on August 30, 2025, at 00:00-23:59 WIB showed 46 eruption tremors with amplitudes of 10-23 millimeters and a duration of 65-155 seconds.

Additionally, there were 4 avalanche tremors with amplitudes of 2-8 mm and a duration of 37-81 seconds, and 9 exhalation tremors with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and a duration of 29-87 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 8 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond that distance, people should not engage in activities within 500 meters from the riverbanks (river borders) along Besuk Kobokan as there is a potential for expansion of hot clouds and lava flows up to 13 kilometers from the peak.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,893 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions, with 2,359 times.
