Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, May 30, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday (30/5/2024) at 10:49 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 6 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 260 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on May 30, 2024, from 00.00 to 23.59 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 31.8 millimeters and a duration of 172 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 puffing earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-14 millimeters and durations of 19-67 seconds, and 3 low-frequency earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-8.8 millimeters and durations of 25-89 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the North-Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 826 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (331 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 126 times.
