Ministry of Environment and Forestry Finds 28 Hotspots in Indonesia, Most in Southeast Sulawesi (Sunday, January 4, 2026)

Based on the SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the last 24-hour monitoring shows 28 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This number of hotspots decreased by 36 points compared to the previous period.

The data is based on Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA satellite imagery accessed on Sunday (Jan 4, 2026) at 11:36 AM WIB. Out of 28 detected hotspots, all 28 are of medium scale.

Hotspot confidence levels are divided into 3 scales. Low scale has a range of 0 - 29, medium scale 30 - 79, and high scale 80 - 100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires occurring in a certain area.

The most detected hotspots are in Southeast Sulawesi with 8 points. East Nusa Tenggara ranks second with 5 hotspots. Central Sulawesi is in third place with 5 hotspots.

As many as 2 hotspots were detected in Highland Papua, followed by Riau with 2 hotspots, and East Kalimantan and East Java each having 2 and 1 detected hotspot, respectively.

A hotspot is a coordinate point of an area that has a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in an area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection is still the most effective in monitoring forest and land fires over a large area.
