Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Monday, September 22, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (9/22/2025) at 12:51 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 22 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 1,500 meters above the peak or 3,084 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 10.5 millimeters and a duration of 106 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki''s activity level is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 22, 2025, from 06:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA, showed 10 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-44.4 millimeters and earthquake durations of 50-157 seconds.

Additionally, there was 1 non-harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 3.7 millimeters and a duration of 87 seconds, and 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 25 seconds.

PVMBG urged the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in the Southwest-Northeast direction.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,266 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,472 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 584 times.
