Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted again in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, July 13, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 01.20 WITA (West Indonesia Time). In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 33 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 15.5 millimeters and a duration of 930 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on July 13, 2024, from 18.00 to 23.59 WITA showed 9 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-17.7 millimeters and durations of 6-8 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 8.1-42.9 millimeters, s-p 1.7-1.9 seconds, and durations of 10-12 seconds; and 3 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-22.2 millimeters, s-p 68 seconds, and durations of 43-268 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the North-Northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the Northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,604 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (692 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 347 times.
