Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Wednesday, September 24, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (September 24, 2025) at 8:20 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 43 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach 400 meters above the peak (1,984 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate to thick intensity heading southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 24, 2025, at 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 1 eruption/explosion earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 97 seconds.

Then, 6 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3.7-7.4 millimeters and durations of 21-30 seconds, and 2 low-frequency earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-3.7 millimeters and durations of 21-30 seconds were recorded.

PVMBG urges communities around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a sectoral area of 7 kilometers from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, specifically to the southwest-northeast.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,308 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,481 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 605 times.
