Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Thursday, February 19, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday (February 19, 2026) at 21:31 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 20 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

No visual observation of the eruption was made. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 50 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Warning). Earthquake observations on February 19, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 124 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 10-28 millimeters and durations of 31-72 seconds.

Additionally, there was 1 tremor earthquake with an amplitude of 6 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds, as well as 9 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-20 millimeters and durations of 47-141 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 683 volcanic eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (363 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 278 times.
