Warning! Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again Tonight (Wednesday, September 3, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (9/3/2025) at 8:13 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 3 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 500 meters above the peak or 1,923 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22.4 millimeters and a duration of 55 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 3, 2025, at 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 55 eruption tremors/earthquakes with amplitudes of 9.8-25 millimeters and durations of 34-45 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 58 exhalation tremors with amplitudes of 4.1-9.6 millimeters and durations of 30-36 seconds, and 2 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.6-2.8 millimeters and durations of 90-141 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or conduct activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity, and to be aware of the potential danger of lava falls/landslides and hot clouds from the South and Southeast, West, and Northeast sectors of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,953 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,383 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 255 times.
